A number of CSO regulator projects are planned as part of the long term control plan. These regulator projects involve the design and construction of improvements to reduce the frequency, duration and volume of any wet weather overflows pursuant to our Long-Term Control Plan.
What do CSO Regulators Do?
Several large capacity combined sewers (meaning sewage and stormwater runoff are collected and conveyed in the same pipes) located in the City of New Haven that convey flow to the ESWPAF for treatment are equipped with CSO regulators. These CSO regulators direct flow to the ESWPAF, but excess wet weather flow must periodically be diverted to nearby rivers and the Long Island Sound.
