What do CSO Regulators Do?

Several large capacity combined sewers (meaning sewage and stormwater runoff are collected and conveyed in the same pipes) located in the City of New Haven that convey flow to the ESWPAF for treatment are equipped with CSO regulators. These CSO regulators direct flow to the ESWPAF, but excess wet weather flow must periodically be diverted to nearby rivers and the Long Island Sound.
