Construction Projects

The Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority (GNHWPCA) funds and maintains a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to ensure that its sewer systems are reliable, safe and efficient while at the same time contributes to protect the environment. Funding for the CIP is provided through the following sources: GNHWPCA’s annual operating budget, revenue bonds, grant reimbursements and grant/loan programs provided by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Projection (DEP) along with other incidental projects required by state agencies such as the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT.) Description


This project consists of capacity upgrades to the East Street Pump Station (ESPS) in support of the City of New Haven’s Long Term Control Plan. A comprehensive upgrade of both the Inlet Works and Operations Building is included in the Work. The Work in the Inlet Works shall include concrete repair and protective coating, replacement of all existing gates, mechanical bar screens with washer-compactors, replacement of screenings conveyors and separation of the grit and screenings. New grit collection equipment, conveyance system and grit washers will be installed and grit blowers will be replaced. The Work in the Operations Building shall include concrete repair and protective coating, replacement of all gates, and replacement of pumps along with all support and ancillary systems (piping, valves, VFDs, controls). New second floor additions are included at both the Inlet Works and Operations Building for electrical and control equipment. Odor Control systems will also be replaced at both locations.
