Construction Projects

The Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority (GNHWPCA) funds and maintains a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to ensure that its sewer systems are reliable, safe and efficient while at the same time contributes to protect the environment. Funding for the CIP is provided through the following sources: GNHWPCA’s annual operating budget, revenue bonds, grant reimbursements and grant/loan programs provided by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Projection (DEP) along with other incidental projects required by state agencies such as the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT.) In this section, you will find detailed information on major construction projects currently underway in the GNHWPCA Service Area. Description


The intent of the project is to implement flood proofing measures at the Fort Hale, East Street, and Boulevard Pump Stations and ESWPAF in New Haven in accordance with funding acquired through FEMA’s Hazardous Mitigation Grant Program. Work at Fort Hale will include raising pump station controls and generators, including installation of new generators, into a new enclosure to be constructed above the 500-year flood elevation. Work at the other locations will include flood proofing walls and deployable flood barriers.
