Construction Projects

The Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority (GNHWPCA) funds and maintains a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to ensure that its sewer systems are reliable, safe and efficient while at the same time contributes to protect the environment. Funding for the CIP is provided through the following sources: GNHWPCA’s annual operating budget, revenue bonds, grant reimbursements and grant/loan programs provided by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Projection (DEP) along with other incidental projects required by state agencies such as the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT.) This project consists of modifications to the existing combined sewer overflow (CSO) regulator structures CSO 003 and 004 on Ella Grasso Blvd and 006 on Whalley Avenue in addition to the installation of new regulator structures along the outfalls of CSO 003 on orange Avenue and CSO 004 off Ella Grasso Blvd and CSO 006 on Whalley Ave. A new piling support system will be included at each newly installed CSO structure location. This proposed construction as well as the modifications to the three existing CSO regulators and outfalls will include manned entry rehabilitation, open cut excavation, concrete work, precast concrete structures, sewer manholes, PVC sewer pipe, ductile iron pipe, catch basin modifications, other appurtenances and surface restoration. This project also includes traffic control, subsurface utility/structure exploration activities, large utility trench support, preparatory cleaning, temporary flow control/handling and the installation and testing of new stop log weirs.
